Ministerpräsident Michael Kretschmer setzt sich in Brüssel für Unterstützung der Braunkohleregionen beim Strukturwandel ein

(AV) Ministerpräsident Michael Kretschmer reiste am 6. Mai 2019 nach Brüssel. Gemeinsam mit seinen Amtskollegen aus Brandenburg und Sachsen-Anhalt, Dr. Dietmar Woidke und Dr. Reiner Haseloff, hat Kretschmer für Unterstützung der ostdeutschen Braunkohleregionen beim Strukturwandel geworben.

Für einen erfolgreichen Strukturwandel sind die öffentliche Förderung von Investitionen und Unternehmensansiedlungen, der Ausbau der verkehrstechnischen Infrastruktur sowie die Förderung der Innovationskraft mittelständischer Unternehmen wichtige Voraussetzungen. Ziel der Gespräche der Ministerpräsidenten war es, den Beitrag der Europäischen Union zum Strukturentwicklungsprozess zu erörtern und auf die besonderen Herausforderungen der ostdeutschen Braunkohleländer hinzuweisen.

Im Rahmen des Besuchs in Brüssel führten die Ministerpräsidenten Gespräche mit hochrangigen Vertretern verschiedener Generaldirektionen der Europäischen Kommission. Dazu zählten Günther Oettinger, Kommissar für Haushalt und Personal, Dominique Ristori, Generaldirektor der Generaldirektion Energie, Professor Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, stellvertretender Generaldirektor der Generaldirektion Energie, Marc Lemaître, Generaldirektor der Generaldirektion Regionalpolitik und Stadtentwicklung, Johannes Laitenberger, Generaldirektor der Generaldirektion Wettbewerb sowie Mathieu Grosch, Koordinator in der Generaldirektion Mobilität und Verkehr.

Jubiläum: 15 Jahre EU-Osterweiterung

(AV) Am 1. Mai 2019 jährte sich zum 15. Mal die EU-Erweiterung von 2004. Damals sind zehn Länder der Europäischen Union beigetreten: Zypern, Tschechien, Estland, Ungarn, Lettland, Litauen, Malta, Polen, Slowakei und Slowenien.

»Die Entscheidung im Jahr 2004, zehn weiteren europäischen Ländern die Arme zu öffnen, war ein großer Augenblick für unseren Kontinent und ein großer Moment der Geschichte«, blickte Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker zurück. »Der Beitritt der mittel- und osteuropäischen Länder und der Mut ihrer Bürgerinnen und Bürger bei der Vorbereitung auf diesen Beitritt haben uns erlaubt, die Geografie unseres Kontinents mit seiner Geschichte auszusöhnen. Ich bin nach wie vor ein großer Erweiterungs-Befürworter.«

Damit diese Mitgliedstaaten beim Wachstum und den Einkommen zum EU-Durchschnitt aufschließen können, hat die Europäische Union über ihre Kohäsionspolitik und seit 2014 über die Investitionsoffensive für Europa, den sogenannten Juncker-Plan, massiv investiert. Diese Investitionen haben auch deshalb zu positiven Ergebnissen geführt, weil die neuen Mitgliedstaaten sich stark bemüht haben, Reformen durchzuführen und attraktive Standorte für Investoren und Unternehmen zu werden.

Im Rahmen der Europäischen Struktur- und Investitionsfonds wurden im Zeitraum 2004 bis 2020 in den 10 Mitgliedstaaten 365,2 Mrd. Euro investiert - das sind 2,6 Prozent ihrer jährlichen Wirtschaftsleistung. 31,4 Mrd. Euro wurden seit 2014 in den 10 Mitgliedstaaten im Rahmen des Juncker-Plans zusätzlich investiert.

Zu den wichtigsten Ergebnissen der Investitionen der Kohäsionspolitik in den Mitgliedstaaten gehören die Schaffung von 367.000 Arbeitsplätzen, Breitbandzugang für 9,6 Millionen Menschen und der Zugang für bessere Abwasser- und Wassernetze für 11,4 Millionen Menschen. Seit 2014 haben die Investitionen der Kohäsionspolitik in den 10 Mitgliedstaaten auch dazu geführt, dass 25 Millionen Menschen Zugang zu besseren Gesundheitsdiensten haben.

Europäische Union zahlt Deinen Urlaub – jetzt bewerben!

Europäische Kommission startet nächste Bewerberrunde für 20.000 DiscoverEU-Tickets

(AV) Seit dem 2. Mai 2019 stellt die Europäische Union wieder 18-Jährigen weitere 20.000 Travel-Pässe für eine Europa-Reise zur Verfügung.

Alle 18-Jährigen in der Europäischen Union können sich bis zum 16. Mai 2019 bewerben, um zwischen dem 1. August 2019 und dem 31. Januar 2020 Europa zu erkunden.

Bisher hatten rund 30.000 junge Menschen die Gelegenheit, mit DiscoverEU durch Europa zu reisen, das reiche kulturelle Erbe des Kontinents zu erkunden, Menschen kennenzulernen, von anderen Kulturen zu lernen und so zu erfahren, was Europa eint. Aus Deutschland haben sich bisher mehr als 34.000 junge Menschen beworben, fast 4.800 Bewerbungen waren erfolgreich.

Europäische Union fördert Auslandsaufenthalte von bildenden und darstellenden Künstlern – Aktuelle Bewerbungsfrist: 15. Mai 2019

(KA) Seit dem 17. April 2019 und noch bis zum 15. Mai 2019 können sich Künstlerinnen und Künstler im Rahmen des Pilotprojekts »i-Portunus« um Förderung für kürzere Auslandsaufenthalte bewerben. Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an Vertreter der darstellenden und der bildenden Künste, die zwischen Juni und Dezember für 15 bis 85 Tage in einem anderen Land arbeiten, ausstellen oder mit anderen Künstlern zusammenwirken wollen.

Insgesamt steht hierfür ein Budget von 1 Mio. Euro zur Verfügung; bis September wird es noch zwei weitere Aufrufe zur Einreichung von Bewerbungen geben. 350 bis 500 Auslandaufenthalte von Künstlerlinnen und Künstlern sollen auf diese Weise insgesamt finanziert werden, wobei die Höhe der Förderung in Abhängigkeit von der Länge des Auslandsaufenthalts zwischen 1.500 und 3.400 Euro beträgt. Das Geld soll der Deckung von Reise- und Unterkunftskosten dienen.

Auf der Internetseite des Pilotprojektes finden sich die genauen Bewerbungsmodalitäten und Auswahlkriterien in englischer Sprache.

Im kommenden Jahr sollen weitere 1,5 Mio. Euro zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

Ab dem Jahr 2021, dem Beginn der neuen EU-Förderperiode, soll die Mobilität von Künstlern dann fester Bestandteil des europäischen Förderprogramms »Kreatives Europa« werden, welches neben den Mitgliedstaaten auch Nicht-EU-Staaten abdeckt.

Regional Agency specialized on higher education is looking for LP for a project to be carried on in the field of ERASMUS plus

Description:
Ardiss, the Regional Agency for the Right to Higher Education (an entity established in the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy) whose main referent are students, is looking for partners fin order to exchange best practices in the framework of the ERASMUS plus Programme.

Ardiss' institutional mission consists in organizing and managing an integrated system of services and interventions to support students overcoming the material difficulties and reaching the highest levels of study. The Agency carries out the interventions concerning the right to university studies and operates directly and through agreements or conventions, with both public and private entities, according to the principle of subsidiarity.

The types of actions/interventions, carried out by Ardiss, can be summarized as follows:

• it provides benefits of economic nature for students, divided into: (I) scholarships; (II) loans; (III) contributions.
• it manages any other service to students, such as: (I) housing services; (II) restaurant services; (III) services for international mobility and reception; (IV) orientation service; (V) cultural, aggregation, tourism and sports services; (VI) transport facilitation services; (VII) services for people with disabilities; (VIII) health care services.

In the framework of a project focused on the exchange of best practices (also within the European Council for Student’s Affairs - ECTSA context), Ardissis is looking for partners with a good experience in waste management, recycle, sustainability, environmental impact and/or water-related issues.

In detail, Ardiss is working on three topics:

I) Water: our goal is to reduce the use of plastic bottles. To do so, we will install water dispensers and give reusable metal bottles to the students.

II) Concrete choices for changing the students behaviours and for generating a better impact on environment, in one’s daily lives by:

• taking part in a national initiative that aims to reduce light pollution;
• reducing the use of heathers and A/C when not using offices or student rooms;
• reducing food waste and energy waste in the kitchens;
• promoting the use of the stairs rather than the lift;
• switching off lights when leaving a room;
• improving bike sharing experience;
• promoting better use of shared washing machines to reduce the use of water, energy and detergent;
• implementing waste reduction tips;
• reducing the use of synthetic fibres (known to release substances in the environment when washed);
• showing films on the environment;
• visiting disposal and recycling plants in our Region.

III) Recycle choices:

• enhancing waste separation;
• cooperating with waste disposal companies;
• reducing the use of paper or use recycled paper;
• joining the national initiative Plastic Free;
• reducing packaging in vending machines;
• wastecomposting;
• book crossing.

Birmingham Researcher is conducting research about the role of institutional entrepreneurs and is looking for organisations/individuals that are relevant to his field of research

Description:
A University of Birmingham researcher is conducting research about the role of institutional entrepreneurs (change actors) in bringing about institutional change. The researcher is looking for individuals who use their resources and networking skills to instigate change initiatives and bring to the fore new ways of doing things/change, or new rules in place. These efforts could take place within projects, new policy proposal, initiatives, reforms, etc.

The researcher is looking for efforts that involve solving a pressing problem.

In general, those efforts involve:

1. identifying the wasteful status quo or the pressing problem;
2. documenting or evidencing the cost of the problem;
3. identifying and institutionalising the solution;
4. identifying the interests and obstacles of solving the problem (include supporters and opponents) to mobilise their efforts. 

The researcher would need to conduct interviews and will be in Brussels in June to conduct the fieldwork.

Fellows Sought for 21 Marie-S. Curie COFUND fellowships

Description:
The University of Alcalá (UAH) and the University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) are pleased to announce that up to twenty one (21) fellowships are available as part of GOT ENERGY TALENT – COFUND Postdoctoral Fellowship programme (GET-COFUND). Out the 21 fellowships available, UAH will recruit eight (8) fellows and URJC will recruit thirteen (13) fellows. GET-COFUND fellowships are jointly funded by the University of Alcalá (UAH) and the University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), on the one hand, and the European Union through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND scheme (Grant Agreement 754382), on the other hand.

The fellowships will provide the opportunity for experienced researches from around the world to spend two years in Madrid (Spain) to undertake an independent, interdisciplinary research project in the field of smart energy and related areas. Moreover, under specific research lines, applicants may choose to carry out a second year doing applied research in one of our partner host institutions from the non-academic sector. Project on »Interactive technologies and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy – a home-based program (hCST) for people with dementia and their relatives« is seeking partners

Call title:
AAL Programme: Sustainable smart solutions for ageing well - small collaborative projects

Types of partners sought:
We are searching for partners in the field of dementia and welfare technology. More specifically we are looking for partners in 2 other SCP countries who have the competencies to identify end users in their own country, to describe the need for this kind of solution and to explore and assess both market potential and define ways to access these markets.

Description:
People with dementia are living in their own home most of the course of the disease, and many do not participate in activities outside the home. This citizen group is growing, and there is a risk that individuals with dementia will experience isolation, passiveness and less social participation in everyday activities.International evidence show that the group variant of CST affects the cognition and life quality of participants with dementia positively. This has also been confirmed in Danish studies. Our thesis is that CST can have similar effects on cognition and life quality of participants when performed at home with new innovative digital support.

The homebased cognitive stimulation therapy-programme (hCST programme) aims to enable the person with dementia to be actively involved in cognitive stimulating sessions, and to empower the relatives to implement an appreciative approach that will promote a meaningful everyday life at home. The design will take specific constructions of social interaction between participants with dementia and their relatives into account. Until now, small pilot user testing of the first but still premature hCST sessions show very positive results.

The project will be an iterative process were all involved partners, including people with dementia and their relatives, will be involved in the development of a hCST programme supported by technology. The project will involve the development and testing of 14 sessions with different cognitive stimulating activities related to the theme of the session. Each of the activities is supported by interactive technology and a digital coach.
